WOONSOCKET – A city man is facing charges of trying to run his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her 8-yearold daughter off the road after he saw them in a car with another male.

Robert L. Delgado, 33, of 133 Rockridge Drive, is also accused of trying to slash the woman’s tires with a knife and then breaking into her house to slice up furniture and steal her clothing.

Delgado was arrested outside his apartment on Friday, the morning after the series of incidents allegedly unfolded. Following a preliminary appearance in Sixth District Court, Delgado is free on personal recognizance from seven counts in all – including charges of domestic felony assault; felony assault with a dangerous weapon – a motor vehicle; domestic breaking and entering without consent; domestic vandalism; and domestic disorderly conduct.

The police encountered the victim, a 28-year-old woman, about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, when she drove herself to the police station to report that Delgado had just tried to ram her car off the road. She said she was dropping off a friend on Bourdon Boulevard when Delgado pulled up to her car.

When he saw a man inside her vehicle, she told police, Delgado became upset and returned to his vehicle to retrieve a knife. At that point, she drove off with Delgado

trailing her in his car.

As she traveled toward downtown, she said Delgado rammed her car from behind three times. At one point, she pulled into the parking lot of River Falls Restaurant in an attempt to elude him. There, however, Delgado allegedly exited his vehicle and attempted to slash her tires.

She drove away and headed for the police station on Clinton Street. Delgado fol

lowed her until she pulled in the parking lot.

That was the first time the victim reported Delgado’s violent behavior to the police within the span of a few hours. She contacted the police a second time after she arrived home the following morning to discover that someone had entered her apartment on Cumberland Street without her permission, using a knife to wreak havoc on the place.

“She showed me her couch that was cut up and the stuffing taken out,” Patrol Officer Shawn A. Cox report

ed. “I also observed writing on the wall that spelled out ‘whore.’”

Additionally, some type of lotion had been sprayed all over her bed, and most of the clothing in her closet – about $400 worth – was gone. She told police she believes Delgado, without her permission, obtained a key to the apartment and had entered it to cause the property damage.

Police arrested Delgado shortly before 9 a.m. Friday after officers spotted his gray Dodge Durango pulling into Rock Ridge Apartments in East Woonsocket. He was taken into custody without incident, though police said they seized a knife from the vehicle that they believe he used in the attempted slashing of his ex-girlfriend’s tires.

A District Court judge released Delgado on $7,000 personal recognizance bail on condition that he keep away from the victim while the charges are pending.

He’s due back in court on Thursday for another hearing.
