WOONSOCKET – An 18-year-old man was hospitalized with a dislocated shoulder early Sunday after his brother attacked him – and his parents, police said.

Kenneth J. Soto Leon, 23, of 320 Grove St., is facing three counts of domestic assault in connection with the incident, as well as charges of domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct.

Police say Soto Leon erupted violently after his mother hid the car keys on him because he’d come home drunk and she thought he was getting ready to leave the house again in his car. During the melee, Soto Leon and his brother ended up wrestling on the floor, at which point family members noticed the sibling nursing a visibly dislocated shoulder.

As the brother left the apartment, Soto Leon allegedly continued throwing punches at his brother, causing his mother and stepfather to intervene. Soto Leon allegedly went after both of them as they tried to quell his frightening tantrum.

Soto Leon threw multiple “closed-fist punches” at his parents as he ranted that he “hated everything,” police reports say. Family members told police they were in fear for their safety because he was “out of control” and “destroying things in the apartment.”

The police weren’t the first who were called upon by family members for help. First, they summoned leaders of their church over to see if they could calm Soto Leon down, to no avail.

The mother “called the police as a last resort...as she had never seen him act like that before,” according to Officer Nicholas Maglio’s report.

After the police arrived, about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Soto Leon’s brother returned to the apartment. From there, the teenager was transported to Landmark Medical Center to be treated for his shoulder injury.

Soto Leon was released on $5,000 personal recognizance pending another hearing on July 1 following an initial appearance on the charges in Sixth District Court on Monday, according to the judiciary’s web site.

Soto Leon has never been arrested before, the judiciary’s web site says.
