Cumberland girls dominate

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland High’s quest to register a third consecutive unbeaten Northern Division regular-season mark continued during its first home triple-dual meet at the Monastery on Monday afternoon – and in style.

The Clippers soared to the top 10 individual placements while delivering respective 15-50 blowouts of Central Falls, Ponaganset and North Providence.

Sophomore Olivia Belt covered the hilly 3.12-mile race course in a triumphant 20:17, while senior Adah Anderson (21:12), junior Bailee Brown (21:18), freshman Grace Carr (21:24) and teammate Chloe Jacinto (21:33) took the next four spots for CHS (6-0).

“We really tightened up the pack from last week,” stated coach Vanessa Molloy. “We had the same plan as the Smithfield meet; I asked the girls to run tempo the first two miles and then really push the last mile. I wanted to see what they had in reserve.

“I’m delighted because just about everybody ran faster than last week,” she added. “We went out at about the same pace, and – for the most part – they brought it home faster.”

The Warriors may have lost to the Chieftains (15-39) and Cougars (22-39), but it did crush BVP (15-50).

Sara DaVeiga paced CF in 19th overall (26:25), while Nadia Vazquez placed 34th (29:15).
