Coastal Medical employees build home for family in need with Habitat for Humanity

-

Employees from Coastal Medical’s Charity and Community Service Initiative in the Volunteerism subgroup recently volunteered at Habitat for Humanity West Bay & Northern R.I. Inc. to build a safe and affordable home for a family in need in Woonsocket. Coastal also provided a company donation toward the cause.

The Coastal employees in the Charity and Community Service Initiative, which formed in January 2019, led these efforts to bring all employees closer together and give back to the community.

On-site tasks included measuring and cutting vinyl siding, nailing vinyl siding onto the exterior of the home, weeding and relocating rocks and sediments, and assisting other volunteer builders. Coastal Medical chose to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity because they agree with the organization’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. In the process, Coastal Medical also was able to see firsthand how a family, neighborhood, and community can be revitalized.

Habitat for Humanity helps families, who otherwise would not be able to afford home ownership, by providing a no-interest, low cost mortgage to families in need of decent and affordable housing. Through volunteer’s time and tax-deductible donations of money and building materials, Habitat for Humanity, West Bay and Northern R.I. is able to reduce the cost of the homes.

“This was a perfect way to meet fellow Coastal employees from all departments and give back to the community. Knowing that we were building a home to transform families and help neighborhoods thrive was very rewarding! Taking care of and giving back to the community is what it means to be Proudly Coastal,” said Myra A. Chaudary, DO, Volunteerism Subgroup Co-lead and Internal Medicine Physician at Coastal Warren Avenue.

“It was such a wonderful experience to meet and work alongside fellow Coastal employees, to help someone fulfill their dream of becoming a homeowner. The hard work the Coastal volunteers put forth through Habitat for Humanity will have a long-lasting impact on the Rhode Island community and we are grateful to help someone’s dream of owning a home become a reality,” said Elizabeth Jimenez, Volunteerism Subgroup Co-lead and Revenue Cycle Analyst at Coastal Medical.

Later this year, the Volunteerism subgroup will be donating their time at local soup kitchens in the community.
