Historical Society hosts talk today
LINCOLN — Today, Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at North Gate Toll House, 1873 Louisquisset Pike, author Rick Beyer will explore the rivalry between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
This is the most famous duel in American History. But, what prompted the sitting vice president of the United States and the former treasury secretary to settle their differences in such a manner?
Beyer, author of “Rivals Unto Death,” explores their unbelievable 30-year rivalry that led to this deadly encounter. Follow these two men through battlefields, court rooms, bedrooms and arguably the wildest presidential election in history, all to the to their day of destiny in Weehawken, New Jersey.
Beyer is a New York Times best-selling author and award-winning documentary filmmaker. His most recent book, Rivals Unto Death is a compelling new account of the Hamilton-Burr rivalry. He co-authored (with Elizabeth Sayles) NYT bestseller The Ghost Army of World War II and produced the companion PBS documentary. He has made other films for The History Channel A&E, and National Geographic, and penned the popular “Greatest Stories Never Told” series of history books.
