Mount closes with victory

CRANSTON — The AMount St. Charles girls tenrnis team won its eighth match in its last nine attempts with Monday afternoon’s 4-3 victory over Cranston West to tclose out the regular season.

The Mounties lost the top two singles matches, but No. 3 singles player Piper dO’Connell and No. 4 Emily Graham posted straightrs­et wins. The No. 2 doubles rteam of Shivanni Gopal and Isabella Chiodo and the No. 3 doubles team of Lucy Bielecki and Isabella Shugrue also posted victories.

Mount St. Charles (8-5 Division I) will likely be the No. 5 seed in the playoffs and will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs

Wednesday.

PANZO WINS IN LOSS

PAWTUCKET — Shea junior Sophia Panzo snapped a two-match losing streak, ending the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over North Providence’s Mary-Catherine Formaro in the Cougars’ 6-1 Division III victory over the Raiders at Tom Duffy Courts.

Shea (5-9 Division III) lost five of its last six matches to miss the playoffs by two wins. The Raiders received a solid effort from No. 3 singles player Ami Avila-Sosa.

North Providence (12-2 Division III) will be the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will likely face St. Raphael, winners of their last six matches, in the first round.
