CUMBERLAND – Three Cumberland police officers – Matthew Alves, Brad Hampson and Christopher J. Iozzi – were recently promoted at a swearing-in ceremony at the Cumberland Public Safety Complex.

Alves moved up in rank from sergeant to lieutenant; Hampson from patrolman to sergeant; and Iozzi from lieutenant to captain.

During the ceremony, the three officers were sworn in by Mayor Jeffrey Mutter and their new badges were pinned to their uniforms by their wives and family members as Police Chief John Desmarais and members of the department looked on.

“With the promotions that were made, we are able to restructure the police department and hopefully streamline area programs that have the most complaints, for example, traffic calming issues,” Desmarais. “All three promotions and reassignments of personnel have taken place and new tasks and responsibilities have been received in a very positive manner by the police department and the community.”

“I am grateful to have a small part in the promotions of these officers,” Mutter said. “They are passionate, engaged and dedicated to their profession and this community.”
