1951 Billy Axon, John Neery and Moe Messier combined for

35 points to give Central Falls the first leg on the city high school basketball title by scoring a hard-earned 41-34 win over Sacred Heart Academy in a Class B tilt. Axon led all players with a game-high 14 points, Neery caged 11 and Messier hooped 10 for coach Omer Landry’s Bluejackets. Ray Levesque canned nine points for coach Leo Labossiere’s Beavers.

1971 All five Cumberland starters scored in double figures

- Paul Peloquin and Kevin Coleman with 16 points apiece, Steve Lukasiewicz and Dave Barone with 11 each and Jim Healy with 10 – but the Clippers fell just short bowing to Rogers 65-64 in a tight Class A East Division battle. In other East Division action, Ed Broadley fired in 25 points as Saint Raphael Academy lost to East Providence 71-65. Ken Bowman torched the twines for 24 points but poor shooting and lack of size hampered Central Falls as the Warriors suffered a 68-42 setback to Barrington in a Class B East Division encounter.

1981 Coach Kathy Tiberii’s quintet dominated both boards

and limited the shorter Tolman girls to just one shot at the hoop virtually every trip down the court as Lincoln snapped a three-game losing streak with a vengeance by trampling the Tigers 52-32 in a Class A North contest. Michelle Roy netted 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Pam Pontbriand swished 12 points and hauled down 10 caroms and Ellen Boyle added 13 points to a sparkling floor game for Lincoln. Only three cagers scored for the winless (0-7) Tigers, with Beth Boisse tallying 16 points and Sue Donahue 10.
