Broncos net second straight D-II win

MIDDLETOWN — Wes Cournoyer pumped in 22 points and Sam Clifford scored a game-high 26 as Burrillville went on the road and posted a 61-54 win in Division II action Friday night.

“We just exploded execution-wise in the second half. The kids just executed down the stretch It was back in forth for five minutes and then we bumped it up to five thanks to Cournoyer,” said Burrillville head coach Kevin Randall. “I told the kids it’s amazing what we can do when we score. We’re one of the best defensive teams in the division.”

Burrillville (3-6 Division II) is back in action Tuesday against Narragansett.

MOUNT CAN’T MOUNT COMEBACK

WOONSOCKET - After falling behind by as many as 24 points courtesy of a 13-0 run by visiting Toll Gate, the Mount St. Charles boys basketball team made a hard push and found itself down just four with a minute remaining.

A costly turnover halted the comeback bid as the Mounties ended up falling, 76-68. Now 4-5 in Division III, the Mounties received 16 points from Jordan Perry while Aidan Cox netted 11 points. Tommy Burke added 10 for Mount, which is back in action Monday at Exeter/West Greenwich.
