Local elections showed ‘municipal class’

- Thomas P. Tatro Harrisville

Earlier this month, I and several others had the opportunity, challenge, and unique experience, once again, to serve our community as an election poll worker either as a clerk, supervisor, moderator, warden, greeter, or sanitizer. In addition to a largely enjoyable and satisfying 14+ hours-long workday and several hours in training prior thereto, we received a paltry sum and a barely-warm meal for our efforts – a good time was had by all! And, certainly, we would encourage any of our fellow citizens to avail themselves of such satisfying public service.

On behalf of my colleagues in the various Town of Burrillville polling places, may I salute and say ‘Thank You’ to our esteemed Board of Canvassers and dedicated Town Clerk’s Office staff for helping to make the day run smoothly and for making the accommodations as safe and comfortable as such could possibly be during a global pandemic. Kudos to all involved for your hard work!

What’s more/most impressive, though, is the “touch of class” that was shown to us by sending each worker a personalized, hand-written note of thanks and appreciation for devoting our respective time and talent to the task just completed.

This kind and concluding gesture speaks volumes about the high regard you had for each of us and the value placed on our individual and collective efforts. As one of undoubtedly many grateful recipients, I humbly thank you for showing us and touching us with your “municipal class!”
