1970 Tom Songin ripped a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring Bob Rock with the winning run to give Mount St. Charles a thrilling 3-2 victory over defending Northern Division champion Cumberland, snapping the Clippers’ 13-game division winning streak. Lefty Steve Ouimette survived a shaky start scattering nine hits, walking two and fanning three for a complete-game win, while Bob Goodrich, in relief of Clipper starter Jim Hogan, took the loss. Ray Moreau and Rock produced an RBI each for the Hilltopper­s. Dave Zyons and Mike Forte collected two hits and one RBI apiece for Cumberland.

1980 The champions were crowned last night in the annual

boxing tournament at the Pawtucket Boys’ Club. The bouts went as follows: 55-60 pound class: Jamie Vargulish defeated Ed Barber, 65-70: Lou Veader dumped Jason Harrison, 70-75: Robert Williams topped Ed Vargulish, 75-80: Dennis Boulden bowled over Ivan Gonzalez, 80-85: Mike Washington won over Mike Doran, 90-95: Dana Rodriguez downed Joe Harrison and Mike Rohelia took the 110-115 crown over Peter Wildenhain. Charlie Lagor, director of the Boys’ Club boxing program, Tom Dragon, Craig Gamache, Art Volpe and Peter Grundy served as officials for the two-day tournament.

1990 Kerri Giguere took three events and Erin Drezek

two to lead Cumberland to victories over Saint Raphael Academy 86-41 and Lincoln 78-49 in a Northern Division outdoor triangular track meet. The Clippers’ victors were Giguere: high jump (4-10), 100-meter hurdles (18.4) and 300 hurdles (55.4), Drezek: discus (84 feet) and shot put (35-7), Jill Emidy: long jump (14-1), Chris Grasso: javelin (111-6), and Gail Fox: 100 dash (13.1),
