1968 Greg Murphy doubled off Johnny Harwood plating

Mike Connolly with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Tolman a thrilling 4-3 win over coach Joe Hughes’ Mount St. Charles nine at McCoy Stadium. Harwood, a sophomore from Pawtucket, earlier in the inning had been the hero for Mount when he stroked a two-run single that drove home the tying runs in the top of the seventh frame. Winning pitcher George Donnell, a sophomore right-hander, allowed three hits, walked three, fanned five and surrendere­d one earned run, while Murphy was the only player on both teams with two hits.

1988 Gerry Phillips clubbed his third round-tripper of the

season and drove in six runs as Tolman whipped Saint Raphael Academy 13-5 at the McCoy Annex field to clinch a berth in the state tournament. Todd Rivard was his usual pesty self with a single, triple, four runs scored and four steals, winning pitcher Lonny Bourgault drove in three runs, Mark Hope rapped a double and single and Kevin Folan chipped in with an RBI double for the Tigers. Brian Cialella and Jeff Smith smacked two-run homers for the Saints who also qualified for the tournament with a 9-7 record.

1998 Matt Jackson of Saint Raphael Academy and Lincoln’s Jad Prachniak are tied for the lead among The Times’ Area schoolboy pitchers with an ERA of 1.60 followed by Mike Desautel of Cumberland (1.62) and Bishop Feehan’s Gino Orsogna (1.63). Derek Dion of Cumberland, Feehan’s David Grof and T. J. Sorrentine of SRA are deadlocked with seven victories, while Dion is also the pacesetter in strikeouts with 64 and complete games with 8. Jackson has the most saves with two and East Providence’s Barry Hertzler is tops in shutouts with three.
