- — By BILL MULHOLLAND

1959 Larry Garabedian fired a one-hitter, struck 11 and

walked five to spark Galego Oil to a 2-1 victory over Walter’s Market for the Darlington National Little League championship crown. In DALL action, Glen Madden spun a three-hitter, walked one and fanned one as Moose No. 377 defeated the Fraternal Order of Police 7-2. Leo Toher rapped three hits in three trips to share batting honors with Bob Martin who drove in three runs for the winners, while Richard Adamonis, Bob Medeiros and John Balciewicz had the FOP hits, all singles.

1969 Mike Thomsen gave up an unearned run in the first

inning then stopped Waterbury Ct. on three hits the rest of the way, walking four and whiffing one as the Blackstone Valley All-Stars moved into the final round of the New England Babe Ruth Tournament with a 2-1 victory. The Valley stars combined a pair of singles and alert base running to score the winning tally in the fourth inning. Ray Ventura singled, went to second on a passed ball, and moved to the third on Chuck Dubuc’s single. Dubuc attempted a steal of second base and when the Waterbury catcher threw to the keystone sack, Ventura broke for home. Dubuc was safe at second as the throw was high and Ventura crossed the plate easily for the winning marker.

1989 Herb Villenueve rolled the high single of 129 and

Howard Gridley took the high three with 353 to lead all bowlers in the AARP Duckpin Bowling League. Other leaders were Bill Heaney 123-341, Villeneuve 329, Harold Smith 326, Doug McQueen 119-324, Al Colannino 115-323, Bill Carnes 121-319, Joe Bardsley 121-315, Lauretta Roy 113-313, Larry Lepre 112-310 and Les Pawson 103-300.
