1959 Brian McCourt spun a perfect game striking out only

seven, but his mates backed him with airtight support to pace Jo-Di’s Grille to a 2-0 blanking over the Wildcats in the Pee Wee A Division of the Pawtucket Boys’ Club-Recreation Department Baseball Leagues. Ed Knight banged out a two-run single scoring both Ed Danielson and Jack Hulme in the first inning for the only runs of the game. In other “A” play, the Pawtucket Lions shutout the Bell Boys 1-0 behind the slick pitching of Jim Brassard and Billy O’Neil’s RBI double that plated Bob Moniz in the third inning.

1969 Manager Teddy Dolan’s Fierlit-Korzen Post nine,

sparked by centerfielder George Coderre, nipped Shields Post of Warwick 4-3 to even their best-of-three series to decide the American Legion state championship. F-K scored its runs in the first inning on RBI’s by Nick Asermely, Ty Brennan and Rick Cote. Defensively, Coderre made a back to the plate catch of a drive by Billy Almon in the third, gathered in a long fly ball in the sixth, hit Brennan with the cutoff who threw a strike to catcher Ernie Crowell who tagged the runner and also made two fine grabs of fly balls in the final frame to ice the victory.
