Local artist to exhibit works at Cumberland Public Library

-

CUMBERLAND – Local artist Giles D. Cloutier of Warwick will be exhibiting a selection of oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings during the month of February. As part of the exhibit, the library will be hosting an art showing on Saturday, February 19 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. The exhibit will be accessible whenever the library is open.

Cloutier has been drawing since early childhood and started painting in the early 1980s. “I started watching William Alexander on public television. William Alexander taught Bob Ross. I was going through a tough time, and I found myself really enjoying the ability to express myself through painting.”

For subjects, he has worked with landscapes, still life’s, cityscapes, seascapes, and pet portraits.

Every artist has something to inspire them when they are creating, and when asked about his muse, Cloutier said, “I really enjoy capturing Moments, Memories and Feelings in Time and see how people relate those with my paintings. During the Wickford Art Festival, many people see a painting that I have done and call out the name of their dog (Pet Portrait), or a scene that reminds them of a time in their life that was special.”

When considering art in general, Cloutier said, “Many artists state that there is something spiritual that happens while painting. I am fortunate. I have experienced that many times.”

Cloutier is a member of the Wickford Art Association and has exhibited at the Warwick Center for the Arts, the Wickford Arts Festival, and the Cranston, Warwick and Woonsocket Harris Public Libraries.
