BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES February 7

- — By BILL MULHOLLAND

1957 The Central Falls Townies will clash with the neighborhood rival Cumberland Boys’ Club Alumni quintet in the first game of a twin-bill on the Pawtucket Boys’ Club court. Townies’ coach Johnny Jones will use Doug Kerr and Gordon Andrews at forward, Harry Taylor, former Central Falls star, in the middle, with ex-West ace Al Jackson and Johnny Almeida at the guard slots. Coach Joe Monteiro’s Cumberland team, made up of players who starred with St. Patrick’s and the McKee Bros, will start Mac Wright, Red Foster, Frankie Connors and the McKee brothers, Jim and Ray, with Bob Condon first off the bench.

Fred Duffy’s foul shot in the waning seconds provided 1967 Pawtucket West with its slim margin of victory as Lincoln came within a point of pulling the biggest upset of the R. I. schoolboy season when the Lions dropped a 52-51 decision to the Rangers. Duffy topped both clubs in scoring 24 points, while Frank Chartier, who missed a possible winning shot with only three seconds to go, was high man for the losers with 14 points. West improved to 10-3 in the Class B Eastern Division standings while Lincoln dropped its 11th consecutive league start.

1977 Kathy Flynn led Bishop Keough to its seventh Suburban Division victory and 11th of the season with a 22-point performance as the Koalas’ routed Johnston by a 59-34 count. Gail Henderson, on the heels of a 28-point effort against St Mary of the Visitation last week, tallied 16 points, while Diane Corneau netted nine, Gina Flatley eight and Patty Mathieu four to round out the scoring. BK is in second place with only one loss behind undefeated Tolman who dealt the Koalas their lone loss.
