BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES

- — By BILL MULHOLLAND

April 12

1951 Cumberland baseball coach John “Wink” Crowley

will have 1950 freshman sensation Ronnie Cooper, who garnered All-Valley accolades as a hard-hitting shortstop, as the Clippers’ ace flinger while alternating at short. The infield starts sophomore letterman Bill Hobson at first base, letterman Bob Doris at second, small but shifty Ed Hobson at short and veteran Johnny Goryl (.340) at the hot corner. Fleet flychaser Bob Richard will be in left, long ball clouter Herve Driscoll in right and freshman Tony Pereiro and soph Bill Walsh are battling it out for centerfield. Letterman Ray Casper will be behind the plate.

1961 Andy Tucker, Cumberland baseball pilot, has sev

en veteran players, including shortstop Walt Dusza who transferred back to the Clippers after a year at Tolman. The infield has Al Hudson and Ron Clement, two hefty juniors, alternating at first base, sophomore Jimmy Keenan at second, Dusza (.328) at short and Norm Carr at third. The fly hawks are Frank Domkowski (.289) in left, Mike Aragao in center and fleet Al Ferreira and Steve Tucker battling for the right field job. Veteran hurlers Ted Crowley, a big righthander, and side-arm curve ball specialist Joe Marshall anchor the mound corps with Dick Kissik (.368) handling their slants.

1971 John DeGoes, who has guided Cumberland to a pair

of outright Northern Division titles and one shared in the last three years, has two-time All-State and All-Valley third baseman Dave Zyons to head this season’s Clipper baseball team. The infield starts Kevin Coleman at first base, Doug Vivian at second, Ed Jarret at shortstop and Zyons (.409) at the hot corner. Mike Brissette and Jack Moran are two veteran fly chasers with Fred Patras (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) claiming the third outfield slot. The pitching staff is led by veterans Jim Hogan and Henry Psybyski with Mark Crozier once again donning the tools of ignorance.
