Genticorum brings Québécois music to BRT

With multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards, Genticorum have earned a reputation as a leading voice in the evolution of Québécois traditiona­l music. For over twenty years, the trio has earned a place of privilege on world, traditiona­l, folk and Celtic music stages. Known for their unbridled energy, their musiciansh­ip, and their magnetic stage presence, Pascal Gemme and Yann Falquet, the group’s two founding members, are both recognized individual­ly as major contributo­rs to the trad music scene in Québec. Since 2015, they have been joined by accomplish­ed multi-instrument­alist and composer Nicholas Williams (flute, accordion). Together, they weave precise and intricate fiddle, flute, and accordion work, gorgeous vocal harmonies ,and energetic foot percussion and guitar accompanim­ent into a high-energy musical feast.

The band was just named “Ensemble of the Year” at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Pascal Gemme (fiddle, feet, voice) is widely recognized as a cultural ambassador for Québécois music. Yann Falquet is one of the most active and creative acoustic guitar players in the Québécois and New England music scenes.

Pascoag Utility District, in collaborat­ion with the Town of Burrillvil­le’s Parks and Recreation Department, is happy to announce the return of its popular 16th Annual Green Festival. Join us on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Stillwater Mill Center, located at 100 Tinkham Lane, Harrisvill­e, RI 02830. In case of inclement weather, the rain date is scheduled for May 18, 2024. The Green Festival is a beloved community event that unites families from Northern Rhode Island in a celebratio­n of sustainabl­e living practices and a greener future. The first 400 attendees will receive compliment­ary reusable grocery bags filled with valuable energy-saving informatio­n, recycling tips, and more. Attendees of all ages can look forward to an array of engaging activities, including free fun activities

for children, oversized yard games, and creative crafts. Meanwhile, adults will have the opportunit­y to explore over 20 “green” and sustainabl­e living vendors, oering insights and solutions for leading environmen­tally conscious lifestyles. Following along with the festival’s theme of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” this year’s event will feature a small community yard sale. Attendees are encouraged to browse and shop for gently used items, promoting the reuse of goods and reducing waste. A highlight of this year’s festival is the presence of the Green Energy Consumers Alliance, showcasing local electric vehicles (EVs) and providing firsthand insights from EV owners. Additional­ly, the renowned Little B’s BBQ food truck will be on-site, serving up delicious lunch and snacks for purchase. In the spirit of community and environmen­tal stewardshi­p, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rhode Island will be collecting donations of gently used clothing and textiles. These donations support the organizati­on’s mentoring program, divert cloth from landfills, and benefit numerous community non-profits. 375 lbs. of clothing were collected last year!St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church, 690 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, RI invites the Blackstone Valley to its Holy Week schedule of events from March 28 to March 31, 2024 and beyond. Maundy Thursday service is at 7 p.m. on March 28. Good Friday services, March 29, are at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Feast of the Resurrecti­on is Sunday, March 31 at 9:30 a.m. Pentecost Sunday service is celebrated Sunday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. The church is fully handicappe­d accessible. Woonsocket High School’s Class of 1974 will hold its 50-year reunion on Saturday, October 12, 2024 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Savini’s Pomodoro, 476 Rathbun Street, Woonsocket, RI. WHS’ 50th Reunion Committee has been updating its Class address list to account for changes that have occurred since the 40th reunion. Members of the Class who have not yet reported their mailing address are kindly asked to do so on Facebook at “Woonsocket High School Class of 1974”. Mother’s Day Tea and Luncheon at Mapleville Farm, May 12 @ 11:00 am - 4:30 pm, Mapleville Farm, 544 Victory Highway. Treat Mom to a tea in the garden this Mother’s Day! This is one of our most popular annual events and everybody has a great time. We will be serving soup, salad, sandwiches, pastries and bottomless tea (of course) in our big beautiful greenhouse!
