Rogers shuts down Northmen offense in D-III clash

NORTH SMITHFIELD — It was a quiet day with the bats for the home team as Rogers notched a 6-0 win over North Smithfield in Division III action Monday. For the Vikings, the win avenges a 4-2 setback to NS on April 23.

Rogers (8-4, Division III) scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Two pitchers Conor Donahue and Benjamin Borgueta – combined on the one-hitter for the Vikings and struck out 10 between the two of them.

North Smithfield starter Kayden Artruc was charged with three earned runs in six innings – the Northmen committed four errors – and also struck out eight while walking two. Jayden Lynch recorded the lone hot for the home team, now 6-7 in league play.

DAVIES BLOWN OUT LINCOLN – Davies Tech fell to Division III contender West Warwick, 10-0 on Monday. The Wizards improved to 13-0 in league action while the Patriots dip to 3-8.

For Davies, sophomore Blake Dexter made his varsity pitching debut, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing just four earned runs.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

LIONS SWEEP LINCOLN – Lincoln High made it a Senior Day to savor with a three-game sweep of Woonsocket in Division II action Monday night. The Lions won by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

For Lincoln, strong performanc­es were turned in by Jackson Colton (9 blocks, 5 kills), Austin Noel (22 assists, 3 blocks, 5 aces) and Wayne McNamara (9 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs).

The Lions have now won four straight, improving to 8-3 in league action.

Woonsocket falls to 3-8 in Division II.

BOYS LACROSSE LONDON LEADS LIONS LINCOLN – Lincoln’s quest to finish near the top of the Division IV standings added another productive chapter Monday night as the Lions blasted East Providence, 19-0, at Ferguson Field. The win helped set up a Tuesday showdown with Scituate – the Lions and Spartans are both 6-2 in league action.

For Lincoln, freshman Daniel London led the way against the Townies with eight goals. Matthew Harmon finished with three goals and three assists.

GOLF CAVANAUGH LEADS LINCOLN LINCOLN – Freshman Luke Cavanaugh

posted medalist honors as Lincoln defeated North Smithfield and Cumberland in a Northern Division tri-match held Monday at Kirkbrae Country Club. Cavanaugh notched one birdie on his way to firing a plus-five 41 as the Lions posted a team score of 169 followed by the Northmen (180) and the Clippers (182).

SOFTBALL NOVANS FALL TO WW WOONSOCKET —The Woonsocket softball team led talented West Warwick after four innings, but the Wizards exploded for seven runs late to secure a 7-1 Division II victory at Cass Park.

Woonsocket (3-5 Division II) received all of its offense from freshmen, as Skye Caro produced two hits and a run. The ran came in the third when Jill L’Etoille hit a two-out single. Alanna Colon had the other hit.
