SWFL JOURNAL

Friday

We’ve been experiencing some very weird times so far this year. Sometimes it’s nice to feel like you’re a bit removed from it all down here at the bottom of the world in Southwest Florida.

Sunday

No matter what’s happening around us, there’s always the beach!

Wednesday

M and J decided to go fishing up near Redfish Pass today. I’m going along for the ride. We may even end up with some dinner.

Thursday

No such luck for the dinner table. Yes, we went fishing—just not catching. Sigh …

Monday

It sure is starting to slow down around here. No waiting in line at CVS today.

Tuesday

Even the FedEx driver has more time to relax. Spied him and his truck taking a lunch break on the Sanibel Causeway islands.

Saturday

I need a change of scenery. My secret spot on the Caloosahatchee beckons. I could tell you where it is … but I won’t.

Monday

I’m so excited! The mangoes on my tree are starting to transition from green to yellow. Doing my happy dance.

Saturday

I think all these little black ants are going to carry my kitchen right out of the house. Pest guy blamed the bromeliads in the front garden. The ants love the water that collects there.

Wednesday

Weather reports say there’s a disturbance somewhere out there already. No denying it— storm season is upon us.

Friday

Time for a long walk on the beach. It’s been a few days and I need to make up for lost time.

Saturday

Scored on the beach. Waves were pushing some treasures ashore, including two beautiful lightning whelks now perched on my window sill.

Tuesday

Summer heat is knocking on the door. I had to give up my morning cuppa on the lanai and stay on the AC side of that door.

Sunday

Was every last dad in Southwest Florida out on the water to celebrate Father’s Day? It sure looked that way as I crossed over Matanzas Pass.

Thursday

D and E invited me to go kayaking around Buck Key. Talk about peaceful. It’s like stepping back a century or so. Then a picnic lunch afterward. Could it get any better?

Friday

From kayaks to stand-up paddleboards. R insists I try SUP yoga. Yes, it’s really a thing. I anticipate getting soaked—several times over.

Sunday

Ouch. Muscles are still recovering from all the water sports I engaged in last week.

Monday

Looking forward to a quiet holiday weekend—with fireworks.
