Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a common yet under-diagnosed condition that could occur in anyone, especially after cancer treatment, injury, surgery or other trauma. It can affect any part of the body. The current treatment for lymphatic disorders is very successful; it consists of manual lymphatic drainage, compression, skin care and education. Be sure to seek lymphatic treatment from a certified lymphedema therapist.
When to talk to a lymphedema therapist
• If you have had lymph nodes removed in any part of the body, radiation
or injury to any lymph nodes
• If you have evident fluid accumulation or a feeling of fullness or
heaviness in the area
• If you have lost motion, strength, function or have pain as a result of
cancer treatment or trauma to the lymphatic system
• If you have had a severe injury or surgery and have chronic swelling past
expected recovery time
