When you are overwhelme­d by cancer, it can be hard to know where to go for help. Whether it is finding means to travel to appointmen­ts, locating affordable lodging, getting help receiving food or simply finding the tools you need to help you, New Mexico nonprofits are here to offer support.

Beauty

• American Cancer Society Gift Closet (tlcdirect.org) — Shop for affordable wigs, hair-loss products and mastectomy products; Open Wednesday afternoons 2-5 p.m. at New Mexico Cancer Center in Albuquerqu­e.

• The Art of the Scarf — Free workshop for all cancer patients, caregivers and survivors 1–2:30 p.m., 2nd Thursday of the month at UNM Comprehens­ive Cancer Center, Room 1604.

• Hair Donations — Beautiful Lengths is a partnershi­p between Pantene® and the American Cancer Society that turns donated hair into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. Visit pantene.com/en-us/ brandexper­ience/make-the-cut.

• Look Good Feel Better® Program (lookgoodfe­elbetter.org/programs) in Albuquerqu­e, Los Alamos and Santa Fe — A free program to help female cancer patients deal with appearance-related side effects of cancer and treatments. In supportive, safe and companiona­ble group sessions, attendees learn about skincare, make-up, wigs and head coverings. Call 1-800-227-2345 to RSVP.

• The Patient Resource Center — Provides free wigs, bras and breast prosthetic­s to cancer patients, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., Christus St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center, 2nd floor, 490 W. Zia Road., 505-913-3095.
