An updated Gila National Forest map is now available at all Forest offices. The price remains the same at $10.00 a map, scale is 1” to the mile, and is coated with a water-resistant laminate.

“The last substantial revision to the map was in 1997, There has been a lot of changes on the Gila in the last 16 years ” says Rex Null, one of the Forest Engineers. This map update includes acquisition of land parcels such as the Bear Creek Land Purchase, plus conveyance (deeding) of Forest roads to Grant and Catron County now identified with the appropriate county numbering. Some recreation updates include the current location of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, and the recently improved Dragonfly Trailhead.

Visitors are encouraged to contact Forest offices in early 2014 for information on the free Travel Management Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). Once this map is available, it will be the Forest’s official map that designates open roads for motorized vehicle use.

Steve Candelaria correctly guessed the September photo was taken at Sloan’s Peak. Can you guess where this month’s photo was taken in Catron County? Email in your guesses.
