Ashlyn Pearce (ex-aly)
Budding director Ashlyn Pearce (ex-aly, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) is bringing her vision to life
It wasn’t just THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’S Aly who changed when she was reintroduced to the canvas as a teen. Portrayer Ashlyn Pearce evolved, too. “That was my first contract role, and I went into it as a bright-eyed, young girl,” she reflects. “In the beginning, Aly was silly, dorky and all those things that I am, too, so I learned a lot about myself through playing her.”
Over time, Aly developed into a force to be reckoned with, and unlike her father in the past, she wasn’t about to be silenced. “Aly believed in women being allowed to make their own decisions and still being beautiful even though they didn’t want to be portrayed as sexy… It was a different approach,” Pearce says. “She was all about not being bullied.
“Toward the end, she did take it to an extreme,” she admits, “but you can’t really be too upset about her viewpoint!”
While Aly eventually went to a dark place before dying during a scuffle with Steffy in 2015, Pearce saw the light for her own future. In addition to acting and continuing her modeling career, she’s also carved out a new role for herself behind the camera as a director. Her first venture is the newly released music video for “Life In Rearview” by singer Kara Connolly. “The concept was female empowerment,” Pearce offers. “It’s about this girl who has broken up with her boyfriend and is in the process of letting go of that.”
Shooting in California’s Mojave Desert proved challenging, especially for a firsttime director, but Pearce says that the result was worth it. “We had everything: a drone team, a full camera team, a fire! My family has this motto: Begin as you mean to go on. And that’s what we did. I’m so excited about how it turned out.” Check out the video on Pearce’s new Youtube channel.
Having that footage to show led the actress to her next directing job: an as-yet-untitled, 10-episode digital series that will explore the ridiculousness of navigating the housing market. “It’s very cute. I love the story!” she enthuses. “We’ll be shooting that sometime in winter.”
Pearce is also looking forward to the release of Foreign Exchange, the psychological thriller in which she plays a pivotal role. In the meantime, she’s busy learning Japanese, enjoying what she describes as her many “nerdy” interests and actively auditioning. “I’m so blessed that I was able to do daytime when I did,” she says. “I really feel like it set the stage for my entire career.”
Having been in an acting class with Zach Conroy (ex-oliver) prior to joining B&B, the alumna reveals, “We were already very close friends… We had such a fun time creating this very sweet and innocent romance on the show.”
The music video Pearce directed “looks absolutely incredible,” she enthuses. “Honestly, it exceeded all of my expectations.”
