Sharon Case shares her thoughts on Sharon and Nick… and Rey!

N o one can accuse THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Sharon Newman of having a boring life. At the beginning of the year, the beauty’s love affair with Scott crashed and burned, then she became involved in the conspiracy to cover up J.T.’S killing, and reunited with ex-husband Nick, only to have their engagement implode when she learned that the hunk had had a onenight stand with her rival, Phyllis! Given the fact that this is the second wedding to Nick that Phyllis has destroyed before vows could be exchanged, does Sharon’s portrayer, Sharon Case, feel a bit of déjà vu when she plays those scenes? “I really don’t see it as a repeat story,” she insists. “Nick and Sharon are core people in Genoa City, who are in love and have a big family. Nothing in life is as simple as getting married and living happily ever after.

“I look at it as these people have lives that go on every day,” she continues. “Their lives change every year, and things happen. I don’t look at it as a repeat wedding any more than any other day of their lives!” Indeed, Case views Sharon’s rocky rela-

tionship with Nick as becoming one of the biggest mysteries on the sudser! “Nick and Sharon have become a couple that never seems to end up getting married!” she says with a laugh. “It’s always going to be the question, ‘Will it happen this time or not?’ It really kind of keeps you guessing, because every two or three years, Nick and Sharon find their way back to each other and have a wedding. But you wonder if this time will be the time, because we’re just one of those couples who finally gets to the altar, but something always happens. Next time, a scud missile will hit us!” Despite the odds that seem to be against them, the Emmy winner actually looks at the couple’s relationship as being positive. “The fact that they’ve tried to get married a few times now and keep trying to be together… they obviously really love each other!” she declares. “They see their life as an adventure and are very romantic. I like that about these characters!”

A Rey Of Sunshine?

Of course, viewers would have to be blind not to recognize the

chemistry that has been sizzling between Sharon and the new guy in town, Rey! Case says that the feedback that she has been getting from viewers is split about her alter ego moving forward romantically with anyone other than Nick. “Some fans are making comments against it while others are right on board, and are happy to see whatever is next for her,” she smiles. “For me, it’s my job! Whatever the writers write for me, I will do my best to interpret it and put it on screen and make it feel true to life. If I’m accomplishing that, I’m happy. If people started texting me saying that they don’t believe the chemistry between Sharon and Rey, well, that’s a problem!”

A Shick Reunion?

Sharon may be currently dealing with her growing attraction to the sexy detective, but Shick fans can take heart — Nick will continue to do his darnedest to win Sharon back! “I think Sharon does want to go back to Nick,” reflects Case. “She’s not only dealing with being hurt but with the shock of his affair. He slept with Phyllis when he and Sharon were madly in love and were walking down the aisle.

“It’s more shocking to have something

like that happen at that time than learning about it on a sleepy Monday morning 10 years later!” the Emmy winner adds with a laugh. “But the last thing she wanted to do was leave him. And I can imagine Nick will do everything he can do not to have their lives disrupted, and to try and get their lives back on track. Whether that happens or not… we’ll see!”
