CBS Soaps In Depth - - NEWS - — Kelli M. Larson with reporting by Amy Helmes

Linsey Godfrey offers her take on Sarah! Plus: her spectacularly soapy new movie!

after having spent five years as THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’S Caroline, Linsey Godfrey has stepped onto the set of DAYS OF OUR LIVES. But wrapping her brain around a character as complicated as Sarah Horton? That took some doing! “She can’t be bothered to beat around the bush. She’s gonna tell you what she thinks!” the actress observes. “But she’s also sweet and fiercely protective of [those] she loves.”

Less Than Perfect

Taking on a character who’s attached to a core family is exciting, but what really intrigued Godfrey was the fact that Sarah is someone she might hesitate to put on a pedestal! “I kind of loved that she’s this messy person,” she laughs, “who has this very important, high-ranking job as a doctor.”

Some might say that Sarah has mom Maggie’s chutzpah but lacks the life experience to back it up. “They’re really, really tight,” Godfrey maintains. “They have moments that mothers and daughters do where you can be a jerk and say terribly mean things to your mom and then look at her and be like, ‘I’m sorry!’”

The News She Didn’t Expect

Viewers got a first glimpse of Sarah’s strength when, despite loving fiancé Rex, she dumped him after learning he’d fathered a

baby with Mimi. Of that brutal betrayal, Godfrey explains, “Sarah really saw Rex as a good guy, and finding out that he isn’t necessarily was just devastating to her.” Like most broken-hearted folks would, Sarah needed a good distraction, and Eric — who was grieving over Nicole’s loss and considering raising little Holly — was all that and a bag of chips! “Sarah’s not good at taking care of herself, but she’s really good at taking care of other people,” Godfrey offers, “so she’s just buried herself in all things Eric and in helping him pick up the pieces.”

Just Around The Corner?

Of course, every good soap viewer knows where that relationship could go! Fortunately for the actress, the pairing’s meant spending time with Eric’s por trayer, (continues)

Linsey Godfrey brings a long-lost DAYS OF OUR LIVES character back to the fore

Greg Vaughan. “Greg and I were instant friends!” she confides. “In fact, we were both in New York with our significant others and ended up having drinks one night, which was so much fun because I love his girlfriend, An- gie” Harmon of RIZZOLI & ISLES fame.

Prior to landing on DAYS, Godfrey had been making movies, teaching Pilates, raising her “wickedly smart” 4-year-old daughter, Aleda ( whom she shares with THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Noah, Robert Adamson) and spending time with her current love, Breckin Meyer

( DESIGNATED SURVIVOR). All the while, “I was hoping that I would land on another soap,” she admits.

Though she’d previously auditioned to play DAYS’ Abigail, as well as another role that didn’t come to fruition, Sarah did in- deed seem like the perfect fit for Godfrey. “I was so grateful when the audition came about,” she says, “because it felt like a golden opportunity.”

“B&B’S Caroline was the opposite of [many] soap characters,” her portrayer reflects. “She sucked at lying — and she was kind of spunky. That’s what I like most about Sarah.”

The DAYS newcomer observes that anytime Sarah and her mother Maggie talk, “they’re holding hands, hugging or doing something physical. It reminds me of me with my mom.”

Godfrey says that it took all of about a minute for her to become insta-pals with Vaughan (once GENERAL HOSPITAL’S Lucky).

Godfrey was happy to be tied to Kyle Lowder’s Rex on DAYS because as B&B’S former couple, Rick and Caroline, “we were ships in the night.”
