County crashes kill two

CE­CIL COUNTY — Two peo­ple were killed in Ce­cil County traf­fic ac­ci­dents within ap­prox­i­mately 22 hours of each other and, as of Thurs­day, one of them still hadn’t been iden­ti­fied af­ter per­ish­ing in a fiery, sin­gle-ve­hi­cle crash near Ch­e­sa­peake City, ac­cord­ing to Mary­land State Po­lice.

In the first fa­tal col­li­sion, MSP troop­ers were dis­patched to the 600 block of Cay­ots Cor­ner, south of Ch­e­sa­peake City, shortly be­fore 3 a.m. Wed­nes­day to han­dle a re­ported traf­fic ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a sport util­ity ve­hi­cle, which had sus­tained heavy im­pact and fire dam­age, po­lice re­ported.

“Upon their ar­rival, troop­ers lo­cated a sil­ver SUV, which had struck a tree and caught fire. The make, model and reg­is­tra­tion of the SUV are un­known at this time,” an MSP spokesman said.

Also, as of Thurs­day, in­ves­ti­ga­tors still hadn’t been able to iden­tify the driver, the sole oc­cu­pant of the SUV, the spokesman said. Ce­cil County Depart­ment of Emer­gency Ser­vices paramedics pro­nounced that per­son dead at the crash scene, the spokesman added.
