‘Mega Move’ postponed again
PORT DEPOSIT — The move of a 650-ton piece of equipment from Bainbridge to the Maryland line has been postponed once again, according to Port Deposit town hall.
Greg Price, spokesman for Supor Heavy Haul, LLC based in New Jersey, said the new date for the move is Monday, March 19.
Originally the move of the equipment — bound for Wildcat Point Generation Station on Route 222 near the Pennsylvania line in Conowingo — was to happen Feb. 27.
Weather has not worked in favor of the project, which Price said last month needs two consecutive days of dry weather for safe transport. Dates switched to Feb. 28, then March 4 and March 14. There was another snow and rainfall Monday night into Tuesday in the travel area. However, the current forecast calls for daytime temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s with sunshine Thursday through Monday.
The equipment will move 5 to 6 mph along Tome Highway with timed delays along the route for traffic. There will be detours in place. The transformer will head to Pennsylvania by the end of the day where it will continue its trip, swinging back into Cecil County along Route 222 north, arriving at Wildcat Point.
