When will we recognize horrors of abortion?

The movie “Gosnell” is now showing in theaters near Cecil County. It describes the 2013 trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who operated an abortion clinic in Philadelphia. During the trial, evidence was presented concerning unbelievably unsanitary conditions in the clinic. The Pennsylvania Health Department had not conducted an inspection of the premises for more than 15 years. The doctor, convicted on three charges of killing babies who were born alive, is now serving a life sentence.

I believe that a major social issue of our time is the struggle to defend the right to life of those who cannot speak for themselves, namely, unborn babies. But when I attended a movie showing, there were only seven people in the theater. I couldn’t help asking myself: why is there so little interest in such a heart-rending topic?

During the Civil Rights campaign in the 1960s, there was a hugely popular song “Blowin’ in the Wind” in support of the movement to liberate African Americans from oppression. One of the phrases in that song went as follows: “How many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?” These words may unfortunately now be applied to describe the unwillingness of many Americans to confront the reality of abortion in our country.

In Elkton, we are blessed to have the Cecil County Pregnancy Center (CCPC). The center is located at 126 E. High St., in the very building which, prior to July 2010, used to house a clinic similar to Gosnell’s. The CCPC provides emotional support and practical assistance to pregnant women and their families in need. All services, including ultrasound imaging to allow a mother to see her unborn child, are provided free of charge, regardless of race or creed. If you are interested, please stop in to the center so that you can see for yourself. killing of defenseless children in the womb?

How about the shooting of Republican Rep. Steve Scalise who almost died from his wounds by a madman who started his rampage asking if the ballplayers were Republicans?

How about the so-called “caravans,” or more accurately “mobs,” marching to invade our southern border? That picture of the mob on the bridge is a perfect symbol of the Democratic Party. I don’t know who came up with the word “mob” but it perfectly describes the liberals.

Do you really want this mob in charge of Congress? They are possibly qualified to run the government of Venezuela. What the president really means by “fake news” is false news that the media makes up and real news that might favor him they cover up. And Mr. Trump is exactly right for calling them out on it. They are really opinion hacks pretending to be objective journalists. In that respect, the “fake news media” with the “mob” mentality are “enemies of the people.”
