DAV fundraiser to support local veterans
— The local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans is accepting monetary donations while raffling off electronics to help support communitybased service initiatives for local veterans at area VA medical centers.
Donations are being accepted by members of the Daniel “Doc” Dougherty No. 28 DAV chapter of Cecil County, who will be at the Golden Corral restaurant located at 221 Belle Hill Road in Elkton from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Nov. 11, leading up to Military Appreciation Night on Monday, Nov. 12. Items being raffled include a 50-inch widescreen TV, a copy of the Madden 2019 video game and an Xbox gaming headset.
DAV and Golden Corral are once again partnering this year for the 18th annual Military Appreciation Night. The evening’s events, held at Golden Corral locations nationwide, will offer up free meals to veterans and active-duty service members, while collecting donations to support DAV’s grassroots service initiatives throughout the country.
Since the start of the 17-year tradition, Golden Corral has served just over 5.3 million complimentary meals and generated more than $14.3 million in guest contributions for DAV to support community-based service initiatives for veterans. The local DAV chapter will use funds raised during Military Appreciation Night to support veterans at the Perry Point and Elsmere, Del., VA medical centers.
Military Appreciation Night is Golden Corral’s way of saying “thank you” to our nation’s veterans and active-duty service members.
The DAV organization was founded Sept. 25, 1920. The local chapter, Daniel “Doc” Dougherty No. 28, received its charter Aug. 16, 1974. The chapter meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at VFW Elkton Memorial Post No. 8175, located at 208 W. High St. in Elkton.
Checks and money orders to support the fundraiser can be mailed to DAV Chapter 28, P.O. Box 446, Perryville MD 21903.
