Feds OK I-95 funds

$20M ap­proved for new Belvidere Road in­ter­change

— Fed­eral of­fi­cials an­nounced $20 mil­lion in fund­ing Thurs­day evening to­ward a new In­ter­state 95 in­ter­change to serve Prin­ci­pio Busi­ness Park, cov­er­ing a large chunk of the fund­ing for the trans­for­ma­tive project.

The project, which would build a new in­ter­change to the in­ter­state high­way near Belvidere Road, is es­ti­mated to cost about $54 mil­lion to­tal. A deal bro­kered be­tween the state, feds and the own­ers of the busi­ness park, how­ever, would mean that Ce­cil County pays as lit­tle as 2 per­cent, or $1 mil­lion, of the to­tal cost.

The fed­eral fund­ing doesn’t come as a com­plete sur­prise — ear­lier this year a Mary­land Trans­porta­tion Au­thor­ity chief said “we hit the bulls­eye with this proj-
