Colorado is expected to hire Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker as its new head football coach, according to a report from ESPN on Saturday.

The announcement from Colorado was expected to come after the SEC Championship Game, which was played Saturday afternoon with Georgia facing Alabama.

Colorado disputed that report, however. Athletic director Rick George “has not offered the head coaching position to anyone at this point; he is still in the discussion and evaluation stages and won’t make a decision on a final candi- date until early next week,” Colorado athletic department spokemsan David Plati said in an email to the Athens Banner-Herald.

Tucker would be replacing Mike MacIntyre, who went 30-44 at Colorado. He was fired Nov. 18 with one game remaining in the Buffaloes’ season.

Colorado started this season 5-0 then lost its last seven games.
