June Irvin Gamble
July 10, 1925 — November 20, 2018 June Irvin Gamble, 93, died peacefully on November 20, 2018.
She was born on July 10, 1925, in Brockway, to Nellie and Kenneth Irvin.
The oldest of six children, she was raised in Brookville. After high school graduation in 1943, June attended Penn State and graduated in 1947, with a degree in Home Economics. She married Hays B. Gamble on November 16, 1948, and they resided at Kewaydin Farm near Doylestown until 1960, when Hays returned to Penn State to earn graduate degrees. They resided in Boalsburg and spent 30 years restoring and living in Hill House while raising four children, pursuing their service, cultural, and outdoor historical, interests, and entertaining family and friends.
During her professional career June was a teacher in the New Hope, Doylestown, and State College Area school districts. She also taught in the College of Health and Human Development and College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State and participated in several community organizations. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Penn State Commission for Women, and she served on the boards of the Centre County Board of Assistance and Centre Home Care. She was a member of the Boalsburg Village Conservancy, the Boalsburg Heritage Museum, the Centre County Historical Society, and the University Women’s Club. She volunteered as a University Guide for 14 years. After Hays’s death in 1996, June moved to Thoroughbred Crossing in State College and later resided at Foxdale Village, where she received wonderful care from the staff. June is survived by her children: Lawrence (Becky), Bruce, (Lisa) Gamble; and Bronwen, Christopher her sister Nancy grandchildren; Reichard; and 11 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service and celebration of June’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hays B. Gamble Endowment Fund at St. Paul’s or The Renaissance Fund at Penn State.
