July 10, 1925 — Novem­ber 20, 2018 June Irvin Gam­ble, 93, died peace­fully on Novem­ber 20, 2018.

She was born on July 10, 1925, in Brock­way, to Nel­lie and Kenneth Irvin.

The old­est of six chil­dren, she was raised in Brookville. Af­ter high school grad­u­a­tion in 1943, June at­tended Penn State and grad­u­ated in 1947, with a de­gree in Home Eco­nomics. She mar­ried Hays B. Gam­ble on Novem­ber 16, 1948, and they resided at Ke­way­din Farm near Doylestown un­til 1960, when Hays re­turned to Penn State to earn grad­u­ate de­grees. They resided in Boals­burg and spent 30 years restor­ing and liv­ing in Hill House while raising four chil­dren, pur­su­ing their ser­vice, cul­tural, and out­door his­tor­i­cal, in­ter­ests, and en­ter­tain­ing fam­ily and friends.

Dur­ing her pro­fes­sional ca­reer June was a teacher in the New Hope, Doylestown, and State Col­lege Area school dis­tricts. She also taught in the Col­lege of Health and Hu­man De­vel­op­ment and Col­lege of Agri­cul­tural Sci­ences at Penn State and par­tic­i­pated in sev­eral com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions. She was an ac­tive mem­ber of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a char­ter mem­ber of the Penn State Com­mis­sion for Women, and she served on the boards of the Cen­tre County Board of As­sis­tance and Cen­tre Home Care. She was a mem­ber of the Boals­burg Vil­lage Con­ser­vancy, the Boals­burg Her­itage Mu­seum, the Cen­tre County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, and the Univer­sity Women’s Club. She vol­un­teered as a Univer­sity Guide for 14 years. Af­ter Hays’s death in 1996, June moved to Thor­ough­bred Cross­ing in State Col­lege and later resided at Fox­dale Vil­lage, where she re­ceived won­der­ful care from the staff. June is sur­vived by her chil­dren: Lawrence (Becky), Bruce, (Lisa) Gam­ble; and Bron­wen, Christo­pher her sis­ter Nancy grand­chil­dren; Re­ichard; and 11 11 great-grand­chil­dren. A me­mo­rial ser­vice and cel­e­bra­tion of June’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at a later date. Me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the Hays B. Gam­ble En­dow­ment Fund at St. Paul’s or The Re­nais­sance Fund at Penn State.
