NFL: The NFL is launching a social justice platform, with an emphasis on education, economic development and community and police relations. The platform is called Inspire Change and includes the funding of grass-roots organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Operation HOPE. It also will establish a digital learning curriculum for African-American history in 175 underserved high schools.
Cardinals: Former Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph has been hired as defensive coordinator. Broncos: A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that former head coach Gary Kubiak won’t be running the offense under new head coach Vic Fangio as had been expected.
Jets: New York made the hiring of Adam Gase as head coach official, two days after coming to an agreement with the former Miami Dolphins coach. Gase will be officially introduced on Monday. Dolphins: A person familiar with the decision said New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is a finalist in Miami’s coaching search, and they’re expected to offer him the job when his team’s postseason ends. Ravens: Greg Roman has been promoted to offensive coordinator, coach John Harbaugh confirmed, marking the end of Marty Mornhinweg’s tenure. Packers: New coach Matt LaFleur announced Mike Pettine is staying on as defensive coordinator. Bears: Kicker Cody Parkey said he is staying off social media after his missed field goal at the end of Chicago’s 16-15 wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles . ... An NFL source told the Chicago Tribune the Bears were meeting with former Colts coach Chuck Pagano for their defensive coordinator job.
Jaguars: Defensive end Calais Campbell’s fine stemming from his Week 11 hit on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been rescinded by the league, per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Campbell was flagged for falling on Roethlisberger with his body weight, not because of a late hit.
Steelers: Pittsburgh hired Teryl Austin as a senior defensive assistant coach. His focus will be the secondary.
Obituaries: College Football Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Vikings assistant coach John Michels has died. He was 87. Michels worked on the Vikings’ coaching staff from 1967-93. He played on Tennessee’s 1951 national championship team and was a consensus All-American in 1952 . ... Rick Forzano, coach of the Detroit Lions during the mid-1970s and hired a young Bill Belichick to work on his staff, has died. He was 90. Forzano also had stints as coach at Connecticut and Navy.
