Robert Darrel Smith, 81, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Friday, the 29th of June 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center - Main, holding his daughters loving hand. He was born the 7th of February 1937 in Kings Mountain, NC, one of four children, to the late Russell and Edith Lovelace Smith. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was a tanker driver and retired with Unocal Chemicals. He was a member of the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge # 737. He loved flowers and gardening, working on lawn equipment, watching Nascar and to fish, . In fact, most all his life he would have salt and peppered catfish every Saturday. One of his greatest accomplishments in his life was his daughter, Renee, who he loved and was loved dearly in return. He is survived by his loving daughter, Renee and husband, Kevin Kyseth, who was like a son, of Charlotte, NC; his brother, William “Billy” Smith of Charlotte, NC; and a sister, Daphine Ware of Kings Mountain, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Hatfield Smith; a brother, Ted Smith and a special and loving brother-in- law, Tim Hatfield. The family will greet friends from 6: 00 PM until 8: 00 PM, Monday, the 2nd of July 2018 at Ellington Funeral Services. A service to Celebrate his life will be held 11: 00 AM, Tuesday, the 3rd of July 2018 in the Historic Morehead St. Chapel at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
