Robert Dar­rel Smith, 81, of Char­lotte, NC, passed away Fri­day, the 29th of June 2018 at Caroli­nas Med­i­cal Cen­ter - Main, hold­ing his daugh­ters loving hand. He was born the 7th of Fe­bru­ary 1937 in Kings Moun­tain, NC, one of four chil­dren, to the late Rus­sell and Edith Lovelace Smith. Bob, as he was af­fec­tion­ately known, was a tanker driver and re­tired with Uno­cal Chem­i­cals. He was a mem­ber of the Steele Creek Ma­sonic Lodge # 737. He loved flow­ers and gar­den­ing, work­ing on lawn equip­ment, watch­ing Nascar and to fish, . In fact, most all his life he would have salt and pep­pered cat­fish ev­ery Satur­day. One of his great­est ac­com­plish­ments in his life was his daugh­ter, Re­nee, who he loved and was loved dearly in re­turn. He is sur­vived by his loving daugh­ter, Re­nee and hus­band, Kevin Ky­seth, who was like a son, of Char­lotte, NC; his brother, Wil­liam “Billy” Smith of Char­lotte, NC; and a sis­ter, Daphine Ware of Kings Moun­tain, NC; and many nieces and neph­ews. He was pre­ceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Hat­field Smith; a brother, Ted Smith and a spe­cial and loving brother-in- law, Tim Hat­field. The fam­ily will greet friends from 6: 00 PM un­til 8: 00 PM, Mon­day, the 2nd of July 2018 at Elling­ton Fu­neral Ser­vices. A ser­vice to Cel­e­brate his life will be held 11: 00 AM, Tues­day, the 3rd of July 2018 in the His­toric More­head St. Chapel at the fu­neral home. Burial will fol­low in For­est Lawn West Ceme­tery. Flow­ers are wel­comed and ap­pre­ci­ated and memo­ri­als may be made to the Michael J.
