3 fire­fight­ers in­jured when fire truck over­turns

Three fire­fight­ers were in­jured when a fire truck over­turned while re­spond­ing to a call in Union County Fri­day af­ter­noon.

The crash hap­pened around 4:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Wes­ley Chapel Road. Of­fi­cials said fire­fight­ers in En­gine 260 with the Wes­ley Chapel Fire Depart­ment were re­spond­ing to a light­ning strike call when the wreck oc­curred.

Two fire­fight­ers were taken to No­vant Health in Matthews and one was taken to Caroli­nas Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Char­lotte. There is no word on the ex­tent of the in­juries, but of­fi­cials said all three are ex­pected to be OK.

No names have been re­leased.

Wes­ley Chapel Road was closed be­tween Magna Lane and Brook Val­ley Run while crews worked at the scene.

Of­fi­cials said par­ents of chil­dren at the Wes­ley Chapel Child De­vel­op­ment Cen­ter could ac­cess the fa­cil­ity from the Sun Val­ley side of Wes­ley Chapel Road.

Of­fi­cials have not said how the crash may have hap­pened.
