MINT HILL - John, age

73, of Mint Hill, N.C., passed away peace­fully un­der Hos­pice Care early on July 19, 2018.

He was born July 21, 1944 in Batavia, Ohio, son of the late Fred­er­ick Skeen and the late He­len McGuire Skeen. John was pre­ceded in death by his beloved wife, Chris­tine Worth Skeen.

Mr. Skeen grad­u­ated from Batavia High School and at­tended Cum­ber­land Col­lege and the Uni­ver­sity of Cincin­nati where he stud­ied Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion. John and Chris were mar­ried on Fe­bru­ary 20, 1965, and spent their early years of mar­riage in Ge­orge­town, Ohio, where they had their daugh­ter, Kelly in 1967 and son, John in 1970. They lived in Louisville, Ken­tucky, Cleve­land, Ohio, and Cincin­nati, Ohio, while he worked for Kelly Tires, ITT, and Owens Corn­ing Fiber­glass.

In 1978, the Skeens moved to Mint Hill, North Carolina, and joined Blair Road United Methodist Church where John and Chris were ac­tive mem­bers for the past 40 years. John was on the Ad­min­is­tra­tive Coun­cil, Fi­nance Com­mit­tee, Build­ing Com­mit­tee, and a mem­ber and teacher of the Pairs and Spares Sun­day School Class.

Mr. Skeen worked as a Sales­man ex­traor­di­naire for Owens Corn­ing Fiber­glass as well as East Coast Metal Dis­trib­u­tors un­til he re­tired to The Vil­lages, Florida in 2007. While there, he en­joyed golf with his wife as well as many friends that they made dur­ing their time there. Dur­ing their time in Florida, the Skeens en­joyed cruis­ing in the Caribbean and vis­it­ing with Chris’s aunt and un­cle, Mar­jie and Art Merten in Largo, Florida of­ten.

John and his fam­ily trav­eled to the Outer Banks ev­ery year from July 1973 to 2013, for a va­ca­tion with life­long friends, Jim and Mary Hamil­ton, and their chil­dren, Mike and Becky, of Mur­raysville, Penn­syl­va­nia.

John and Chris were diehard Ohio State Buck­eye foot­ball fans and en­joyed watch­ing them play on tele­vi­sion at the OSU alumni head­quar­ters in Char­lotte. They both vol­un­teered their time with the club to help raise money for schol­ar­ships and set up watch par­ties. They also trav­eled to see themplay in the Rose Bowl, Fi­esta Bowl, and Big Ten Cham­pi­onship games as well as home games at “the shoe” in Colum­bus. “GO BUCS!”

John and Chris moved back to Mint Hill, NC in 2012 to be close to their chil­dren and grand­chil­dren while John took care of his beloved Chris in her fi­nal years.

John is sur­vived by daugh­ter, Kelly Skeen Eudy (Mark); and son, John McGuire Skeen (Heather). He is also sur­vived by his sis­ter, Pa­tri­cia Bee (Robert). He was a de­voted grand­fa­ther to Wes­ley Dal­ton Stamey (Melissa), Tay­lor Davis Eudy, Jor­dan Ay­ers Eudy, Made­line Rayne Bad­gett, Alexan­dra McGuire Skeen, De­laney Buchanan Skeen and Mor­gan Pay­ton Skeen; and many nieces and neph­ews.

A cel­e­bra­tion of his life will be held at Blair Road United Methodist Church, 9135 Blair Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, on Thurs­day, July 26, 2018, at 6: 00 p. m. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends fol­low­ing the ser­vice.
