SOUTH­ERN PINES - Ralph Hunter Lang­don, 94, of South­ern Pines and for­merly Char­lotte, passed away at the Coven­try at St. Joseph of the Pines on Wed­nes­day July 18th.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at a later date.

Born in Coats, N.C. Au­gust 30, 1923, he was the son of the late Ralph Ed­ward and Mary Ste­wart Lang­don. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from Max­ton high school, Ralph en­tered the U. S. Navy. He served his coun­try dur­ing WW II, from 1941 - 1947. Fol­low­ing an hon­or­able dis­charge, Ralph at­tended UNC - Chapel Hill, where he earned his Bach­e­lors’ De­gree. In 1944, he mar­ried Janey Mafalda Mil­li­gan. He had worked for both Gen­eral Elec­tric and The Amer­i­can Red Cross be­fore start­ing his ca­reer with Ab­bott Lab­o­ra­to­ries in 1959. Ralph was pro­moted to District Sales Man­ager in 1964, when he moved to Char­lotte. In 1986 he moved to Wood­lake be­fore re­tir­ing from Ab­bott Lab­o­ra­to­ries in 1989. He and Mafalda moved in to Belle Meade, South­ern Pines, in the late 1999, giv­ing them the free­dom to travel the world dur­ing their golden years.

In ad­di­tion to his lov­ing wife of 74 years of mar­riage, Mafalda Lang­don, Ralph is sur­vived by their sons: Richard Lang­don, wife Tammy, Mark Lang­don, wife Su­sanne, Steve Lang­don, wife Lori and Greg Lang­don. He is also sur­vived by his grand­chil­dren and great - grand­chil­dren.
