John Theodore “Ted” Gas­ton, 86 passed away Fri­day July 20th at Levine & Dickson Hos­pice House in Hun­tersville. He was born in Gas­ton County, son of the late Jasper and Mary Gas­ton. He was a grad­u­ate of Bel­mont High School and later at­tended Bel­mont Abbey. As a mul­ti­sport ath­lete in both High School and Col­lege, he was in­ducted into the Bel­mont Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and is also on the bal­lot for the Caroli­nas Golf As­so­ci­a­tion Hall of Fame. Af­ter leav­ing col­lege, Ted Joined the Army. Af­ter the Army, Ted be­gan work­ing at Duke Power and re­tired af­ter 30 plus years. He was a mem­ber of Hills Chapel United Methodist Church in Stan­ley. In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­ceded in death by three brothers Jasper, Reid and La­mar. Those left to cher­ish his mem­ory in­clude his wife Joyce, three chil­dren San­dra, John, and Gary; six grand­chil­dren and four great- grand­chil­dren. A ser­vice to cel­e­brate his life will be held at 3: 00 on Sun­day July 22 in the chapel of Wood­lawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with the Rev. Sean Turner of­fi­ci­at­ing. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends one hour prior to the ser­vice at the funeral home. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Green­wood Ceme­tery in Bel­mont. In lieu of flow­ers, me­mo­ri­als can be made to the Hills Chapel UMC Build­ing Fund; 988 NC 16 Stan­ley, NC 28164 or to Levine & Dickson Hos­pice House- Hun­tersville; 11900 Vanstory Dr. Hun­tersville, NC 28078.
