Washington: First-round pick Daron Payne is expected to miss two to three weeks because of an ankle injury. Coach Jay Gruden said the defensive lineman out of Alabama was stepped on during practice and will be in a walking boot for about a week.
Eagles: Quarterback Carson Wentz looked close to ready, if not already there, during a humid morning practice. Barely seven months removed from tearing the anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his left knee, he participated in full team drills without limitations. While he tossed two interceptions, he drew rave reviews from his teammates and coaches for his arm strength, accuracy and mobility.
Bears: The contract impasse between Chicago and rookie linebacker Roquan Smith centers on language governing whether Smith’s guaranteed money could be reclaimed by the team if he were suspended under the new NFL rule that prohibits a player from initiating contact with his helmet.
Jets: No. 3 overall draft pick Sam Darnold sat out a second day of practice at camp because of a contract impasse.
Running back Eli McGuire has a broken foot that will likely sideline him for several weeks. The sixth-rounder last year out of Louisiana-Lafayette rushed for 315 yards and a touchdown as a rookie and caught 17 passes for 177 yards and a TD.
Seahawks: Left tackle Duane Brown, 32, a threetime Pro Bowl selection, reached agreement on a multiyear contract extension.
Lions: Marvin Jones gave Detroit the first injury scare of training camp when he left practice with an apparent left knee injury. He landed awkwardly after leaping high for a pass over DeShawn Shead in a red-zone drill late in practice. Jones stayed on the sideline for the final few periods of the 2.5-hour workout, rubbing his knee throughout.
Bills: After two largely inconsistent and injuryshortened seasons, defensive end Shaq Lawson is the first to say he’s not come close to meeting the expectations that followed the Bills selecting him in the first round of the 2016 draft. He’s lost about 10 pounds this offseason, and is now listed at 260, which is the lightest he said he’s been since high school.
Browns: Rookie Baker Mayfield is paying for the quarterbacks to hang out in an RV at training camp. As part of his initiation into the NFL, the No. 1 overall draft pick is funding a camper that the Browns QBs retreat to between practice sessions to nap or watch TV.
