Thanks for 38 years, Charlotte Cafe

The Charlotte Observer (Sunday) - - Opinion -

Wednesday the Charlotte Cafe at Park Road Shopping Center closed forever. Due to increasing rent, Jimmy Roupas said goodbye to patrons he served for 38 years.

Monday, I witnessed a moving tribute as customers filled his restaurant one last time. Tears flowed as they paid their final bills, snapped photos, and hugged Jimmy, his wife, Mary, and Johnny, who bused tables daily with his enduring smile.

We are losing a business rooted in Charlotte and with it a part of ourselves. As a Charlotte native and loyal patron, I thank Jimmy and his family for nourishing our bodies and souls for all these years. I am grateful the Arboretum location will continue the tradition.

– Larry Farber, Charlotte
