dis­play solid - and smooth - in­side moves, scor­ing 12 points on 5-of-7 shoot­ing.

The Wild­cats led 41-32

at half­time, their fi­nal two points com­ing on a put­back dunk by sopho­more guard Carter Collins.

North­east­ern was

with­out in­jured start­ing point guard Vasa Pu­sica (wrist), a pre­sea­son Al­lCAA pick, and guard Shawn Oc­ceus (an­kle), the league’s de­fen­sive player of the year last sea­son. An­other key Huskie, guard-for­ward Max Bour­siquot, is out with a hip in­jury.

David­son last played

con­sec­u­tive games against non­con­fer­ence op­po­si­tion in 1961, when the Wild­cats beat Al­abama 68-63 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., then won again over the Crim­son Tide 10 days later at what’s now Char­lotte’s Bo­jan­gles’ Coli­seum 73


The Wild­cats play

again at Belk Arena on Tues­day against the Char­lotte 49ers for the Hor­net’s Nest Tro­phy. The Wild­cats, who won last sea­son’s game against the 49ers 85-70, trail in the se­ries 28-16 but have won five in a row.
