INDIAN LAND - Russell T. Hanson, Jr., 77, passed away December 13, 2018, after a fall on Thanksgiving. Russ was a true son of the West. Born in Reno, NV, he spent the first half of his life in the Sacramento/CA foothills area, where he raised a family and had his own land surveying business. His surveying skills then took him to San Francisco where he was employed as a routing engineer with Pacific Gas and Electric Company and met his wife of 26 years, Linda Nagle Hanson. Russ loved hunting, XC skiing, biking for MS, and playing sports: football, basketball, baseball, including Fantasy Camp with the SF Giants, and golf. His love of golf took Linda and him to Pinehurst, NC where he then found his real passion - croquet. He competed throughout the southeast with the Pinehurst Croquet Club and then the Tega Cay Croquet Club in SC. Russ and Linda had many adventures, traveling thousands of miles in their RV. He also very much enjoyed their vacation homes, first in the mountains of CA, then at the beach in NC. In addition to Linda, Russ is survived by daughters Keri Ruddock and LeAnn Rund, stepsons Jeff and Cliff Rudnick, 12 grandchildren, and nine greatgrandchildren – all on the west coast, as well as sisters Norene Hanson and Pat Cunha, and his precious dogs and cats. A memorial service will be held at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC on January 5, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Contributions in Russ’s name may be made to the US Croquet Assoc., your local animal rescue organization, or the Alzheimer’s Assoc.
