Rita Austin Parrish Peterson of Richmond, Virginia, died December 23, 2018, at Spring Arbor of Richmond Assisted Living. Rita was born April 20, 1937 in Charlotte, North Carolina; she was the daughter of the late Curtis Stephen Parrish and Frances Ladell Austin Parrish. She worked and retired as a dispatcher and corrections officer for the Campbell County Sheriffs Department. In retirement Rita trained and showed her beloved Shetland Sheepdogs in Agility. She travelled the East Coast for years to competitions and shows with her dogs and won many awards. She is survived by two loving sons, Walter A. Peterson and Eric W. Peterson, and two grandsons Zachary A. Peterson and Andrew M. Peterson. Rita attendedMyers Park High and the Women College at the University of North Carolina. Rita had many adventures, interests and talents in her lifetime. She painted, wrote poetry and loved playing music. She loved nature and animals, owned and rode horses, camped and sailed, but her true loves were her beloved Shetland Sheepdogs and her grandsons. Most of her adventures were with her friends and the BBB’s along with her lifelong best friend, SallyWall Lee. The family will receive friends 5: 00 p. m. to 6: 30 p. m., Thursday, January 10 at Bliley’s- Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club, 1700 Lakeside Ave. with snacks and refreshments. A graveside ceremony will be held 2: 00 p. m., Saturday, January 12 at the Elmwood Cemetery, 700 West 6th Street, Charlotte North Carolina.
