CHAR­LOTTE — Charles Al­bert “Chuck” Bar­ton, Jr., 74, a life­long res­i­dent of Char­lotte, passed away Tues­day, Jan­uary

15, 2019 at his home. He was born Oc­to­ber 27, 1944 at Char­lotte Me­mo­rial Hos­pi­tal. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from East Meck­len­burg High School, where he was an ex­cep­tional stu­dent, ath­lete and leader, he at­tended the Univer­sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was pre­de­ceased by his fa­ther, Charles Al­bert Bar­ton, Sr. He is sur­vived by his mother, Nancy Shaw; daugh­ters, Sher­rad Bar­ton of Bos­ton, and Mered­ith Bar­ton Miles (Perry) of Richmond, VA; sis­ter, Nancy Sharp of Char­lotte; brother, Jon Bar­ton (Kathy) of David­son; grand­chil­dren, Caro­line Miles and John Miles of Richmond, VA; and, nieces Au­drey Hitt and Dana Bar­ton of Char­lotte, and Lau­ren Bar­ton of Den­ver. Chuck was a ca­reer sales­man and worked in var­i­ous in­dus­tries in­clud­ing in­dus­trial, women’s cloth­ing and medical and safety sup­plies. He never met a stranger - he en­joyed bring­ing smiles to peo­ple’s faces and treated ev­ery­one he en­coun­tered as if they were the most im­por­tant per­son in the world. He was a ded­i­cated Tar Heel fan and in­stilled a love of sports, es­pe­cially bas­ket­ball, in his daugh­ters. He could shoot a mean game of pool and fre­quented Dil­worth Bil­liards in his younger days. He loved the beach, es­pe­cially Ocean Drive, and lived there for the few years when he was not in Char­lotte. It was there that he rekin­dled his love for golf, which brought new friends and a new way to spend time with his daugh­ter and son-in­law. He was a vo­ra­cious reader and was well on his way to read­ing ev­ery fic­tion book in his lo­cal li­brary. He was a loyal friend and he dearly loved his fam­ily, es­pe­cially his grand­chil­dren. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at 11 am on Mon­day, Jan­uary 21, 2019 at Elling­ton Funeral Home, 727 East More­head Street, Char­lotte, NC with a ser­vice cel­e­brat­ing Chuck’s life to fol­low at Noon in the His­toric More­head Street Chapel at the funeral home.
