Charles Albert Barton, Jr “Chuck”
CHARLOTTE — Charles Albert “Chuck” Barton, Jr., 74, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, January
15, 2019 at his home. He was born October 27, 1944 at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. After graduating from East Mecklenburg High School, where he was an exceptional student, athlete and leader, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Albert Barton, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Shaw; daughters, Sherrad Barton of Boston, and Meredith Barton Miles (Perry) of Richmond, VA; sister, Nancy Sharp of Charlotte; brother, Jon Barton (Kathy) of Davidson; grandchildren, Caroline Miles and John Miles of Richmond, VA; and, nieces Audrey Hitt and Dana Barton of Charlotte, and Lauren Barton of Denver. Chuck was a career salesman and worked in various industries including industrial, women’s clothing and medical and safety supplies. He never met a stranger - he enjoyed bringing smiles to people’s faces and treated everyone he encountered as if they were the most important person in the world. He was a dedicated Tar Heel fan and instilled a love of sports, especially basketball, in his daughters. He could shoot a mean game of pool and frequented Dilworth Billiards in his younger days. He loved the beach, especially Ocean Drive, and lived there for the few years when he was not in Charlotte. It was there that he rekindled his love for golf, which brought new friends and a new way to spend time with his daughter and son-inlaw. He was a voracious reader and was well on his way to reading every fiction book in his local library. He was a loyal friend and he dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 11 am on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Ellington Funeral Home, 727 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC with a service celebrating Chuck’s life to follow at Noon in the Historic Morehead Street Chapel at the funeral home.
