Coastal Carolina tops App State

Zac Cuth­bert­son scored 24 points with seven re­bounds and Ajay San­ders added 14 points Satur­day to help Coastal Carolina beat Ap­palachian State 89-72, hand­ing the Moun­taineers their six straight loss.

Coastal Carolina (8-9, 2-3 Sun Belt) started with a 16-0 run as all five starters en­tered the scor­ing col­umn with 13:49 be­fore half­time.

The Chan­ti­cleers led 43-32 at half­time be­fore Ap­palachian State (5-13, 0-5) re­duced the deficit to 56-54 on a layup by Tyrell Johnson with 12:48 left, but the Moun­taineers never got closer.

Ebrima Dibba scored 12 points with seven as­sists, six re­bounds and three steals for Coastal Carolina and De­vante Jones also scored 12 with seven as­sists and three steals.

The Chan­ti­cleers shot 29 of 58 from the field – in­clud­ing 10 of 21 from 3-point range – and missed just six of 27 foul shots. They out­re­bounded the Moun­taineers 37-29.

Justin For­rest led Ap­palachian State with 21 points and Isaac Johnson scored nine to go with 11 re­bounds.

UNC Greens­boro 75, East Ten­nessee State 68: In Johnson City, Tenn., Fran­cis Alonso and An­gelo Al­le­gri each scored 15 and the pair com­bined for eight 3-point­ers as the vis­it­ing Spar­tans (17-3, 6-1 South­ern) beat the Buc­ca­neers (16-5, 6-2).

N.C. A&T 57, Mor­gan State 53: In Greens­boro, Ron­ald Jack­son had 21 points and grabbed eight re­bounds, Kaeron Lan­g­ley had 10 as­sists and scored the win­ning bas­ket as the Ag­gies (9-9, 4-0 MidEastern Ath­letic) beat the Bears ( 7-11, 2-3) to win their fifth straight.
