Coastal Carolina tops App State
Zac Cuthbertson scored 24 points with seven rebounds and Ajay Sanders added 14 points Saturday to help Coastal Carolina beat Appalachian State 89-72, handing the Mountaineers their six straight loss.
Coastal Carolina (8-9, 2-3 Sun Belt) started with a 16-0 run as all five starters entered the scoring column with 13:49 before halftime.
The Chanticleers led 43-32 at halftime before Appalachian State (5-13, 0-5) reduced the deficit to 56-54 on a layup by Tyrell Johnson with 12:48 left, but the Mountaineers never got closer.
Ebrima Dibba scored 12 points with seven assists, six rebounds and three steals for Coastal Carolina and Devante Jones also scored 12 with seven assists and three steals.
The Chanticleers shot 29 of 58 from the field – including 10 of 21 from 3-point range – and missed just six of 27 foul shots. They outrebounded the Mountaineers 37-29.
Justin Forrest led Appalachian State with 21 points and Isaac Johnson scored nine to go with 11 rebounds.
UNC Greensboro 75, East Tennessee State 68: In Johnson City, Tenn., Francis Alonso and Angelo Allegri each scored 15 and the pair combined for eight 3-pointers as the visiting Spartans (17-3, 6-1 Southern) beat the Buccaneers (16-5, 6-2).
N.C. A&T 57, Morgan State 53: In Greensboro, Ronald Jackson had 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Kaeron Langley had 10 assists and scored the winning basket as the Aggies (9-9, 4-0 MidEastern Athletic) beat the Bears ( 7-11, 2-3) to win their fifth straight.
