Canes’ van Riems­dyk out 4-6 months

Carolina Hur­ri­canes de­fense­man Trevor van Riems­dyk is ex­pected to miss the rest of the play­offs af­ter hav­ing shoul­der surgery.

Gen­eral man­ager Don Wad­dell said Satur­day that the 27-year-old van Riems­dyk un­der­went surgery on his left shoul­der and is ex­pected to miss four to six months. Van Riems­dyk was hurt in the first pe­riod of Game 2 of the se­cond-round sweep of the New York Is­lan­ders last Sun­day.

The Hur­ri­canes re­called de­fense­man Jake Bean from their AHL af­fil­i­ate in Char­lotte on an emer­gency ba­sis.

Fri­day’s high­lights

Stars 2, Blues 1: Ben Bishop made 38 saves as the Dal­las Stars beat the Blues in St. Louis and took a 3-2 lead in their West­ern Con­fer­ence semi­fi­nal se­ries.

Ja­son Spezza and Esa Lin­dell scored goals for the Stars, who can ad­vance with a win in Game 6 at home on Sun­day. Jaden Schwartz scored for the Blues.

St. Louis was 0 for 4 on the power play, giv­ing up sev­eral qual­ity short-handed chances to the Stars. The third power play at the end of the se­cond was so fu­tile that it drew hearty boos from the 18,542 at En­ter­prise Cen­ter.
