NASCAR Cup Se­ries: The car chiefs for Joey Logano, Chase El­liott and Kyle Larson were ejected af­ter their cars failed in­spec­tion for a sec­ond time ahead of Satur­day night’s NASCAR Cup Se­ries race at Kansas Speed­way. All three cars made it through on the third try.

The trio was joined by eight oth­ers in fail­ing the first round of in­spec­tion, in­clud­ing Aric Almirola, who qual­i­fied on the out­side of the first row. In fact, five of the top eight qual­i­fiers were sent to the back of the pack for fail­ing in­spec­tion, in­clud­ing Daniel Suarez and Martin Truex Jr.

Pole-sit­ter Kevin Harvick made it through clean. Clint Bowyer will start next to him. For­mula One: Valt­teri Bot­tas is poised to be­come a ma­jor threat to team­mate and de­fend­ing For­mula One cham­pion Lewis Hamil­ton af­ter clock­ing a scorch­ing lap at the Span­ish Grand Prix to win his third con­sec­u­tive pole po­si­tion on Satur­day in Montmelo, Spain.

Bot­tas smashed Hamil­ton’s track record at the Barcelona-Catalunya Cir­cuit in qual­i­fy­ing, rock­et­ing through the 2 1⁄2- mile track in 1 minute, 15.406 to bet­ter Hamil­ton’s mark from 2018.

With Hamil­ton sec­ond on the grid, Mercedes is in great po­si­tion to ex­tend its record start af­ter the pair swept the top two spots at the first four races.
