Margaret Phifer May 7, 1929 - July 17, 2021


Statesvill­e , North Carolina - Margaret Saxon Phifer, age 92, of Mt. Holly, NC passed away peacefully, on July 17th, 2021. She was the wife of the late Lewis Edward Phifer, and daughter of David H. Saxon and Sarah E. Abernathy. She was known as “Peggy” to family and friends. Not only was she a wonderful mother, amazing grandmothe­r, and fabulous great grandmothe­r. Margaret graduated from Harding High School in 1947, worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company and Saxon’s Lunch at Charlotte Pipe and Foundry. Her love for playing sports, especially basketball and softball, and enjoyed attending Bob Cat’s, Hornet’s, and Panther’s games. Was an active member of New Covenant United Methodist

Church in Mt. Holly. Enjoyed camping and loved to travel with family. She loved the joys of life on Mountain Island lake where she lived for 34 years. She was a member of Mecklenbur­g Shrine Club for many years where she loved to dance and supported Shriner events.

Margaret “Peggy” is preceded in death by her one sister, Alice “Sue” Saxon Cain. Surviving are her only daughter Patricia Phifer Copeland and husband Michael Copeland of Mt. Holly, two grandaught­ers Laura Coleman and husband Bucky; Christina Leon and husband Albert, seven great grandchild­ren, Savana, Oscar, Emma, Saxon, Sadie, Caleb, and Madison; nieces and nephews, David Cain, Susan Anderson, and Karen Cain.

A Celebratio­n of Life service will be at 2pm on July 25th at New Covenant United Methodist Church 14514 Lucia-Riverbend Hwy., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. Family will receive friends from 1-1:45.
