Setzer, Arron featured in next String Theory
Violinist Philip Setzer, founding violinist in the Emerson String Quartet, and cellist Edward Arron return to Hunter Museum of American Art to perform with pianist Gloria Chien in the next String Theory concert on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
The evening begins with Musical Dialogue at 6 p.m., followed by the performance at 6:30. Hunter Museum is located at 10 Bluff View.
Setzer and Arron will be j oined by Chien to perform Tchaikovsky’s impassioned piano trio “In Memory of a Great Artist,” a work dedicated to Tchaikovsky’s friend, Nikolai Rubinstein.
Schubert’s “Du bist die Ruh, D. 776” will also be presented.
Setzer has appeared with the National Symphony, Aspen Chamber Symphony, Memphis Symphony and Puerto Rico Symphony, among others. He has been touring and recording the piano trios of Schubert, Mendelssohn and Dvorak with David Finckel and Wu Han.
Arron is artistic direc- tor of Edward Arron and Friends, and performing artist- in- residence at the Clark Art Institute.
Arron made his New York recital debut in 2000 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and since then has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras and as a chamber musician throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He is a faculty member of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Chien is the founding artistic director of String Theory and is artist-in-residence at Lee University.
I ndividual concert tickets are $35 for Hunter members, $ 45 for nonmembers, $10 for students with a valid student ID, and $25 for groups of 20 or more people.
